The limited edition DODOcase is a beautiful, hand made iPad case that is designed to protect it from extinction.

Inspired by Moleskine journals and made by hand in San Francisco using traditional book binding techniques, the case blends the traditional feel of a book with the technological power of the iPad. With an interior made from bamboo and a faux leather cover, it’s also environmentally friendly, so you can rest easy if that’s a check box in your buying decision.

Lastly, the cover is designed to be folded back so you can stand your iPad, and an elastic strap keeps the cover tight when you’re on the go.

If the Apple case isn’t doing it for you, and you want to make sure your iPad stands out from the crowd, then definitely give the DODOcase a look, because there’s really just nothing like it that’s alive today.

To help us understand and experience what’s going on in Haiti as they recover from the devastating earthquake that destroyed Port-au-Prince recently, CNN is using 360° cameras to capture footage that can then be manipulated by the viewer, allowing you to pan and zoom around the scene as if you were there.

In the future, I’d like to think that Hollywood will find some way of integrating this technology into the way that they make movies, putting the audience right into the middle of the action and allowing you to focus on whatever grabs your attention.

Can you imagine what Jurassic Park or Black Hawk Down would be like if they were shot like this?

The MiniWatt tube amp might be the world’s smallest, and it might only put out a meager 2.5 watts per channel, but that doesn’t stop it from delivering full, robust sound that is wow’ing audiophile reviewers the world over. In fact, ToneAudio magazine recently named the MiniWatt their “Product of the Year” in the budget audio category.

Sure, it only has one stereo input, and it’ll still set you back $269, but if you’re looking for high-end sound quality for a (relatively) low-end price, then you can’t do much better than the MiniWatt.

There are plenty of Gift Guides out there for just about anyone on your list, but they’re often filled with the same old boring crap that every other Gift Guide is featuring, so this year I decided to make my own Gift Guide and fill it with ideas for things to get that special someone when you want to surprise them with something they haven’t already seen a million times before:

Gingerbread Man Anatomy Holiday Cards

Jason Freeny is no stranger to DYH, but this year, he’s taken his special kind of art and created a holiday card out of the gingerbread man’s anatomy. It might not come pre-filled with warm and fuzzies, but you can guarantee Halmark’s got nothing on the uniqueness of this card!

iWallet

It’s made of carbon fiber, it connects to your cell phone via Bluetooth to warn you if it gets stolen, and it can only be accessed with your fingerprint via a built-in biometric scanner. If anyone needs more security than that, then maybe it’s time to stop going outside.

NVIDIA GeForce 3D Glasses

Gaming in 2D is so 2009. In 2010, it’s time to take gaming to the next level with the GeForce 3D Glasses from NVIDIA. Using a special monitor and an IR receiver to tell distance, these glasses will allow you to see into and through the game in front of you, giving you a whole new way to experience your virtual world like never before.

La Crosse Technology Battery Charger

With four individual displays to indicate the status of up to four batteries that can each be set to one of four different modes, the La Crosse Technology BC-9009 AlphaPower Battery Charger may be a bit overkill, but that’s also what makes it a must have for any gadget geek on your list.

iMo Pivot Touch

What can you do with a 7” USB powered touchscreen monitor? Better question: What can’t you do with a 7” USB powered touchscreen monitor?

Chumby

Sure, the Chumby One was released this year, and it’s cheaper and has better specs and is more gadget like, but nothing can compare to the original computer in a bean bag known as the Chumby.

Thermaltake Level 10

It doesn’t look like any computer case that I’ve ever seen, but that’s what makes the Level 10 from Thermaltake so unique. Plus, for just $2,500 more, you can get it filled with all the latest guts from IBUYPOWER.

Apple Magic Mouse

Having used one for more than a month, I can definitely vouch for the claim that this thing works like magic. If you’ve got a Mac head, design fan, or button-phobic person on your list, then give the gift that keeps on clicking.

Eye-Fi Memory Card

With the Eye-Fi Explore SD card, any camera can automatically geotag and upload photos and videos on the go using any available wi-fi network. If that doesn’t turn your gift recipient into a buzzing social media over-sharer, then nothing will.

Bialetti Hot Chocolate Maker

I’ve probably made about 100 gallons of hot chocolate since I got an automatic hot chocolate maker, so if you’ve never experienced the joy that a fresh, frothy cup of hot chocolate can bring, then it’s time to give one of these to someone that will let you borrow their kitchen from time to time when the temperature drops.

Lensbaby Composer

The Composer is designed to give the budding photographer in your life a new eye to the world with a lens that can be tilted and shifted to any desired angle for a crazy new effect that will surely unleash the creative talents they never knew they had. That, or they’ll just get frustrated trying to figure out why their pictures never turn out the way they want and then smash their camera over your head, but those are just the risks you’re going to have to take this holiday season.

Clocky Alarm Clock

It’s a clock with a face that rolls away from you every time you try to hit the snooze button. If that doesn’t get your special someone out of bed in the morning, nothing will.

Logitech Harmony One

It’ll control thousands of home entertainment devices with ease using a combination of buttons and a programmable touchscreen, and it’ll look good doing it too. With the Harmony One, you’ll never have to fumble with 18 remotes and a magical button dance just to watch a DVD again.

So that’s it. See something you liked? Then be a good Santa and stop procrastinating and start Visa’ing.

Google Goggles is the future. But not the ‘eventually we will have something that can do that’ future, since it already exists, but the ’10 years ago, we thought we would have something that could do that in 100 years, but now we have it today’ future.

To use Google Goggles, you just take a picture of something with your Android phone using the Google Goggles app, and it automatically searches Google for the thing in the image. For instance, snap a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge, and it will automatically show you the search results for that landmark:

You can take pictures of landmarks, books, business cards, artwork, places, wine, or even a logo, and it will do its best to figure out what you’re trying to search for. And while that’s a neat trick on its own, the future part comes into play when you think of what this could enable with a few small tweaks.

Imagine if you had a pair of glasses with a camera in the front and screens on the inside. (See the Vuzix Wrap 920 for an example.) Then imagine that the camera is connected to the Google Goggles app, so that whenever you look at something, it automatically pulls up additional information from the web and displays it right in front of you. Suddenly you’re walking around like the Terminator with an augmented reality style display giving you extra information about the world around you in real time.

That might sound futuristic, but the technology to make it happen exists today, and all that’s needed is for someone to put the pieces together and get everything to play nicely with one another. Throw in a machine gun and add some Michael Bay to the mix, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a party!

Frankie Flood makes pizza cutters that are unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

As Frankie says,

My work investigates one of a kind objects and their role in a world based on mechanical reproduction. Industry has removed the aura from objects and stripped them of their individuality. My pizza cutters seek to demolish the sterile conformity of mass produced objects and represent the stylistic and flamboyant embellishment of groups who live on the fringe of popular culture. The outlaw biker image is a break from the conformity that has taken over America since industrialization. My machined pizza cutters draw inspiration from chopper motorcycles and attempt to reclaim the mythology and economic usefulness of the American worker as patriarch; translating machine or functional object into flesh and blood. The outlaw as defiant nonconformist, as well as social outcast, parallels being an artist who makes functional objects and being an individual who takes pride in the power of invention and skill.

Be sure to check out Frankie’s site for other objects that he has given his special touch to.

Though normally available with a brown cover, Field Notes offers a ‘Colors’ subscription service for those that want to add some variety, and want to make sure they always have a fresh Fields Notes book on hand.

The subscription service includes 24 very-limited-edition memo books (only 100 subscriptions are available) spread out over the year in four different colors/styles. For summer, the color is “Grass Stain Green”, while Fall, Winter and Spring of 2009 still remain gigantically top secret.

If you’re the type of person that likes to write everything down, but you like to do it with style, sophistication and exclusivity, then check out Field Notes and pick up a subscription.
