Each culture has a different definition of the word delicacy, but some are more cruel and controversial than others.
Trifter has gathered up The 8 Most Cruel & Controversial World Delicacies into one list, but unless you’ve got a strong stomach, you might want to skip this one, as most of these are definitely not PG13.
You’ve been warned.

People are f…ing horrible aren’t they?
It does interest me how/why non-western cultures seem to have much more bizarre and cruel eating habits than western. I might also note that many eastern societies don’t really keep animals as pets, so the fact they eat cat and dog and stuff seems awful to us, but, I’m guessing anyway!, to them is no different from us eating chicken.
Still, this kind of stuff makes me glad to be a veggie!
The focus on live animals is definitely strange. I guess it’s just that we grow up around pets and get a love for animals, and other countries don’t develop those same feelings?
Or maybe it’s us that are wrong, developing those feelings for animals which should only be viewed as food?
After all, we are the only ‘animal’ that keeps other animals as pets, for enjoyment and comfort. To my knowledge no other species does this, although there are plenty that eat animals if not alive, then only just dead.
I could never eat anything that was alive. I ate ladybirds once when I was toddler and the thought of that (thankfully, not the memory) makes me queazy!
