…It’s Website Wednesday: 1 Millimeter A Day?

1 Millimeter A Day

Chris Hornbecker took on a rather unique project for 2008: He wanted to take a photograph each day using a focal length that was one millimeter more than the previous day’s photo. Starting at 14mm and working his way all the way up to 389mm, the project was called 1 Millimeter A Day, and definitely forced him to look at things from a different perspective.

Take a look through the archives to see what he created, because there’s definitely some inspiring stuff in there for anyone that spends their time behind the lens.

…Electrabel’s 2008 Pixilation was beautiful?

Electrabel 2008 Pixilation

Electrabel decided to say goodbye to 2008 in a beautiful way with a fantastic pixilation that was made with more than 288,000 individual candles, a lot of time, and a ton of creativity. Enjoy:

And if you’d like top see how they did it, check out the fantastic making-of video as well, though unfortunately it’s French with Dutch subtitles, so you may just have to guess at what they’re saying:

…Paint jobs on cars shouldn’t be outrageous?

Ten Most Outrageous Car Paint Jobs of 2008

Some people just don’t understand the art of subdued simplicity, but if that’s the case, then having your car listed on Jalopnik’s “Ten Most Outrageous Car Paint Jobs of 2008” is probably an honor.

From lingerie themed and Swarovski covered MINIs to gold leafed Aston Martins, matte black Rolls Royces and chromed out McLaren SLRs, it’s a what’s what and who’s who in the crazy custom car world from this past year, and definitely worth a look.

…Domino Day is huge?

Domino Day

Domino Day 2008 was on November 15, and the Weijers Domino Productions team tried to break the current world record for domino toppling by setting up 4.5 million dominoes.

Though one of the builder challenges failed, resulting in the loss of a few dominoes, they still managed to break the record with a total fall of 4,345,027 dominoes, including challenges that broke nine other records during the day:

  • Longest Domino Spiral (200 Meters)
  • Highest Domino Climb (12 Meters)
  • Smallest Domino Stone (7 Millimeters)
  • Largest Domino Stone (4.8 Meters)
  • Longest Domino Wall (16 Meters)
  • Largest Domino Structure (25,000 Stones)
  • Fastest Topple of 30 Meters of Domino Stones (4.21 Seconds) (The sprinter Churandy Martina ran with the dominoes and achieved the time of 3.81 sec for the same distance.)
  • Largest Number of Domino Stones Resting on A Single Domino (727 Stones)
  • Largest Rectangular Level Domino Field (1 Million Stones)

Since it’s hard to imagine what 4.5 million dominoes looks like (and I’d imagine it’s impossible to imagine the sound) here’s a video from the event:
