…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Porsche 911 GT3 R?

Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid

Porsche’s latest 911 GT3 R is technically a hybrid, but don’t let that fool you into thinking they’re giving up speed and going green. Instead, this track monster features a system that’s similar to the KERS system that was developed for F1 racing, and which is designed to give the car a speed boost during acceleration through the use of small electric motors that assist the main engine.

If the technical terms don’t get you all hot and bothered, then maybe you should just let Porsche explain the car in their own unique way:

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Zero S?

Zero S

The Zero S is “a high performance supermoto motorcycle that is revolutionary because it is fully electric”.

With a Z-Force power pack and a handmade aircraft grade aluminum alloy frame, the power-to-weight ratio of the Zero S is as equally at home in an urban environment as it is in the occasional off-road detour, and will take you as far as 60 miles at up to 60 miles per hour. Plus, with an electric motor providing instant acceleration, there is plenty of torque available to make the bike as fun as it is green.

If the fastest, cleanest and lightest bike around sounds like a good deal to you, then check out the Zero S. The world will thank you.

…The Eliica takes electric cars into the future?

Eliica Exterior

What has eight wheels, eight motors, four wheel steering, runs on electricity, and accelerates faster than a Corvette?

The Eliica (which stands for Electric Lithium-Ion Car) was conceived by Hiroshi Shimizu and designed by a team at Keio University in Japan, and supposedly can go up to 200 miles per charge, and tops out at more than 230 mph.

Eliica Interior

It reaches those amazing speeds through the use of eight electric motors, each generating 80 hp and powering its own wheel (for a total of 640 horsepower!) and though only two are currently in existence, the team hopes to build 200 of them once it can find a corporate sponsor.

200 mph in an electric car that seats four and will go 200 miles before needing a change?

Sounds like an all-electric winner to me!

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Audi R8 V12 TDI LeMans?

Audi R8 V12 TDI LeMans

Though the US is still having trouble wrapping its head around the power and potential of diesel, Audi seems well aware of what it can do, and has developed the R8 V12 TDI LeMans concept car to help them strut their stuff.

Featuring “the first 12-cylinder diesel engine in a high-performance roadgoing sports car”, it generates 500 hp and 737 lb-ft of torque, propelling the car from zero to 62 mph in just 4.2 seconds, with a top speed of well over 186 mph.

Peak torque?

It’s reached at just 1,750 rpm, meaning “effortless acceleration” that is without rival.

Thus, the question becomes: Would you switch gas pumps for a car like this?

My guess: Yes, yes you would.
