…It’s TGI Friday: Achievement Unlocked?

Achievement Unlocked

Achievement Unlocked is another meta game, similar to the previously featured Upgrade Complete, that gives you 100 achievements to unlock in order to finish the game.

Don’t worry about beating levels, finding ways to kill enemies, or beating the final boss… there are none. Focus solely on your ultimate destiny… doing random tasks that have nothing to do with anything.

Plus, if all else fails, just remember that opening the ‘Hint?’ box unlocks and achievement…

…It’s TGI Friday: Mirror’s Edge 2D?

Mirror's Edge 2D

Considering some of the reviews I’ve read of Mirror’s Edge (See Yahtzee’s Zero Punctuation Review for an example) Mirror’s Edge 2D might just be the first advergame that’s better than the original!

Mirror’s Edge 2D was developed by Borne Games (the same folks that created the Fancy Pants Adventure series) and it borrows and updates heavily from the already fantastic controls to create a fluid experience that will have you running up walls, sliding under bars, and jumping across chasms in no time.

It’s also a very open game, with lots of room to explore, and you can earn achievements along the way that will help you rank on the global leaderboards that they keep updated with the top scores.

…It’s TGI Friday: Shift 3?

Shift 3

I featured Shift on DYH back in February, but I figured that with the release of Shift 3, it was probably worth another look.

Shift 3 takes the Portal/Paper Mario theme that made the first one so famous and adds a massive adventure mode, tons of achievements to earn, and even an unlockable Celebrity secret character.

In addition, there’s a selection of 18 Classic style levels from Shift players around the globe to battle your way through, and scoreboards to show off on if you think you shift like no one else.

Be careful though, because things aren’t always as they appear.

…Team Fortress 2 has been Gold Rush Updated?

Team Fortress 2 Gold Rush Update

The Team Fortress 2 “Gold Rush Update” has just been unleashed by Valve, and it includes a new Gold Rush Map, a new Gameplay Type, a unique Item System, and 36 new Medic Achievements.

Gold Rush is an entirely new level featuring a new gameplay style called Payload. The level is split into three separate areas with intermediate capture zones inside of each major chapter. The teams are split between offense (Blu) and defense (Red) similar to Dustbowl. The goal for the Blu team is to push the bomb payload through the level until it reaches the next capture point, eventually destroying all three of Red’s major bases. Blu pushes the cart through the level by standing near it, with the cart moving faster when more people are close by. If no one has pushed the cart forward after 30 seconds, the cart will begin to move backward until it is pushed forward again.

The new item system is going to be rolling out over the next year, and players will be able to earn three new and unique items for each character by earning some or all of that character’s new achievements.

The new medic achievements are quite varied, and range from Quadruple Bypass (Heal a teammate who’s taking fire from 4 enemies at once.) and Play Doctor (In a team with no Medics, be first to switch to Medic after a teammate calls “Medic!”, and then heal 500 health.) to Big Pharma (Assist a Heavy in killing 20 enemies, where neither of you die.) and Bedside Manner (Be healing a teammate as he achieves an achievement of his own.)

Lastly, if you haven’t yet played Team Fortress 2 (and you really should) then you can try it out this weekend from May 2-4, during which you can play the entire game for free through Steam.

Sweet.
