…Albums can be art?

Album Cover Remix

Rather than remixing a song, why not remix album covers?

The results are surprising, and impressively coherent, though the time it must have taken to gather up all of these covers is beyond me.

…Floppy drives can survive?

Batch Totem - Trunkeret & IkoniskUsually the music is the message, but Batch Totem (Jonas Olesen) decided to be different, and has gone with the medium for his latest album.

By releasing the album, called Trunkeret & Ikonisk, as a 1.4MB file on a 3.5” floppy disk, “the idea is essentially to release an album on an almost obsolete medium that fits very well with the music on an aesthetical level”.

“Secondly, the scope of the project is to use heavy compression as a feature that shapes the music, instead of a limitation that reduces sound quality.”

I guess this at least helps prevent bootlegging.

…The Savage Chickens have been animated?

Savage Chicken

Laura Veirs wanted a music video for her new album, called Saltbreakers, so she created a contest, and opened up to artists for submissions.

The winner was this stop-motion film of the Savage Chickens by Doug Savage, and considering the stolen status of the Bravia Bunnies ad, this just might be my favorite new piece of stop motion.

…FILE Magazine expects the unexpected?

Painter’s Thumb By Nawfal Nur

FILE Magazine is a collection of photographs that treat subjects in unexpected ways, creating new genres with alternate takes, odd angles, unconventional observations, and more, FILE isn’t Kodak, Vogue or ESPN, and it definitely isn’t a photoblog, photo challenge/contest, or group photo album. FILE is, however, a great place to go for inspiration, improvisation, and imagination. If you want to see the world through a different lens, check out what FILE has to offer, but be prepared for a perspective shift.
