To show the days and dates, people hold placards with the correct information. To show what day it actually is, everyone looks in one direction: the current date.

…Mac menubars can display the date?
With a bit of clever menu manipulation, you can finally force your Mac to show the date in your menubar using System Preferences.
- In System Preferences, open International and go to the Formats tab.
- Next to Dates, click the Customize button. Arrange your date in the format you want to appear on your menubar. Use the down arrows on each element to choose between formats. (January, Jan, 01, 1, etc.)
- Now, select the entire date format and copy it to your clipboard (Cmd+A, Cmd+C). Hit OK.
- Hit the Customize button next to Times. Choose the “Medium” format.
- Paste the date format on your clipboard next to the time format, and hit OK. You’re done!
It’s not exactly easy, but it works, so there’s now no excuse for not knowing the date.

…Leopard is coming?
The date has finally been finalized; On Friday, October 26, 2007, Apple will release Leopard, its latest operating system, to hoards of screaming Apple fanboys.
Ok, so it might not be that dramatic, but considering how long it’s been since their last release, a new OS is kind of a big deal. Plus, as Vista continues to flounder, it’s time once again for Apple to one up the ‘Soft boys.

…Timeline scrolls the date and time?
The Timeline Clock is an interesting concept where the date and time are shown on bands that scroll across the screen. It’s a unique way of displaying information, and somehow captivating, though you only really notice the seconds and minutes scrolling along (which does put the slow movement of everything else into perspective). If someone could figure out how, I’m sure this would make an amazing wristwatch. If you click on the clock, you can download Timeline and use it as a screensaver. Very cool.
