Each culture has a different definition of the word delicacy, but some are more cruel and controversial than others.

Trifter has gathered up The 8 Most Cruel & Controversial World Delicacies into one list, but unless you’ve got a strong stomach, you might want to skip this one, as most of these are definitely not PG13.

You’ve been warned.

…Meters have changed?

by Cory O'Brien

Meter

Though we usually assume that distances are fixed (a mile is a mile is a mile) the official definition of a meter has changed numerous times through out history.

Each time, the definition of a meter became more precise, but it also changed slightly from the previous definition, allowing for less and less of the variation inherent in each measuring system.

Bonus: The only three countries not currently using the metric system: Liberia, Myanmar, and the United States.

…You need a verbotomy?

by Cory O'Brien

Doctorow

Verbotomy, “an online game that challenges people to invent words, create definitions for them, and use them in sentences”, draws it inspiration for this week’s words from Overclocked, a collection of short stories by Cory Doctorow. With words like Meemcream, a combination of meme (a cultural item transmitted by repetition) and cream (to froth; foam) and Digivalry, a combination of digital and chivalry, you’ll surely find at least a few words to add to your daily vernacular. It’s plagiarific.
