…South by Southwest wants to give you free music?

SXSW Music

If you couldn’t make it to South by Southwest (aka #SXSW for the Twitter-ites) but you still want to keep up with all the latest and greatest in the semi-undiscovered music scene, then check out the fully legal, DRM-free, RIA-safe collection of music that’s been released by the festival’s promoters through the torrent world.

The torrent, which is the fifth such collection to be put out on the ‘net, contains more than 6 GB of music, or 1267 MP3s spanning multiple genres and levels of famous-ity.

Granted, not everything is going to match your specific tastes, but there are plenty of songs to try out, so open your mind and be prepared to discover, because you never know what’s going to be the next big thing.

(Just one warning: There are so many songs here that it will probably crush your current collection of music, and if you try to use the random function on your MP3 player ever again, you’ll still end up listening to 10 SXSW songs between every normal song, so be prepared. Not that that’s a bad thing, just don’t expect your best of Michael Jackson collection to string together like it used to ever again.)

…It’s Website Wednesday: Made For Each Other?

Made For Each Other

Made For Each Other is a website/game from Frito Lay that’s meant to advertise for their chips and dips, but it’s also a fantastically fun site to just play around with and see what you can discover.

Inside of the site (it takes a while to load but is well worth it) there are tons of half-matches, and your goal is to bring them together. When you find a pair that fits, you’ll be rewarded with mini-games, video clips, and other goodies that all involve bringing things together.

There’s no ‘goal’ to speak of, so it’s mostly just a fun environment to play around in, but that doesn’t make it any less fun, so give it a go and see what you think.

…It’s Website Wednesday: 66 Celebrities That Blog?

Rather than choose one site for this week’s Website Wednesday, I’m going to give you 66 of them, and let you co the choosing.

Celebrity Cowboy Gossip Blog has put together a list of 66 Celebrities that Blog, and it’s surprising how many well known people wield a keyboard in the online world.

It is worth noting though that some of these have long since been abandoned, and “a bunch of them are disappointing” because “their sole intention is to advertise a product or show.”

However, there are some choice diamonds buried among the rough, so click around and see what you can discover, because you never know who might be blogging on the down low.

…It’s Website Wednesday: Shelfari?

Shelfari is a social media site for the book lover. Users create their own “personal shelf”, fill it with their own books, and can then use that data to see what friends are reading, give and get recommendations, create book lists, share opinions, and more.

Shelfari Shelf

Once you’re there, discover new books by seeing what your friends are reading, what others with similar tastes are reading, or by receiving a recommendation, and talk it up by connecting with new and old friends to talk about books, joining groups devoted to your favorite authors, or by bringing your book club online with you.

Showing off and sharing your shelf has never seemed so satisfying.
