…It’s Movie Monday: A Gathering of Elephants?

Eames Elephant

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Charles Eames’ birth, the Vitra Design Museum and the Eames Office teamed up to produce a limited edition run of the elephant that Charles and Ray Eames designed in 1945, but never put into production.

The Eames are famous for their chair, the Eames Lounge Chair, which is said to be the breakthrough design for one of the most influential design teams of the twentieth century.

The elephant features the swooping wood look that made the chair so famous, and will undoubtedly be highly sought after by the hoards of Eames collectors.

…London’s underground is filled with animals?

Underground Elephant

Paul Middlewick stared at the London Underground map for so long, he started to see animals. Then, he realized that he wasn’t crazy, the tube lines, stations and junctions of the subway really did form into the shape of an elephant. Since that fateful discovery some 17 years ago, many more members of the animal kingdom have been discovered, all of which are documented at AnimalsOfTheUnderground.com, a collection of 27 animals. No drugs required.

…44 little people can tow a DC-10?

Little People

I was impressed that a Touareg could tow a Boeing 747, but then I found out that 44 little people could pull a DC-10. In Man vs. Beast, a Fox reality TV show, 44 little people squared off against an 8,800-pound elephant to see who could pull the airplane faster. Not surprisingly, the elephant won, but I wonder how it would have faired against the Volkswagen.
