Red Bull would like to remind you that your life sucks.
Ok, so maybe that’s a little harsh, but their film, titled J.O.B.: A Short Surf Film, compares the lives of a suit and a surfer with a rather unsurprising conclusion: surfing is more fun than working a 9 to 5.
However, despite the fact that this is obvious surf propaganda, it does serve as a good reminder that sometimes, life is just more fun when you spend time outside of convention.

When you’re the lead animator for The Matrix Reloaded, it’s probably a good bet that you’ve got some skills behind a computer.
Four years ago, Jeff Lew decided to take those skills and use them to make his own feature film, so he quit his job to follow his dreams.
Finally, after working at his computer for 14 hours a day, 7 days a week, spending his entire life savings, and maxing out his credit cards, he’s almost done.
(Keep in mind, this was all done by a single person.)

The screenplay was written over a a 1 ½ year period.
Previsualization took 9 months.
Modeling and texturing took about 6 months.
Animation took about 2 ½ years.
Final renders are in high definition.
Rendering final shots started well over a year ago and still continues.
There are over 1000 shots.
The longest shot is a continuous 1 minute 16 seconds shot.
The shortest shot is 8 frames long.
The renderfarm started with 3 dual core computers. They have now been replaced with 4 quad core computers.
Each rendering computer is equipped with 2 gigs of ram.
The maximum amount of polygons rendered for a single shot is 1.9 million polygons.
Every shot is rendered using a simulated physical camera using true depth-of-field.

Job I wish I had: Volkswagen durability driver. These guys get paid to do rally style jumps in Volkswagen vans and speed bump smashes in Volkswagen beetles, and then they get to drive home in their unjumped and unsmashed cars afterwards. If anyone would like to pay me to jump and smash their car for them, my services are definitely for hire.
