…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Lotec C1000?

Lotec C1000

Never heard of the Lotec C1000?

That’s because you’re not an oil baron from the UAE.

This one of a kind supercar was commissioned by one back in 1995, and originally sold for about $3.4M (with an M). At the time, and even today, it was one of the fastest cars in the world, with a reported top speed of 268 MPH.

The rest of the specs are no less impressive, as this custom cruiser would get you to 60 in just 3.2 seconds, and 125 in just 8.1 if the mood was right.

Ho did it pull off such amazing feats of physics?

A 5.6-liter Mercedes V8 was force fed by twin turbochargers through a five speed manual, with the end result being 1000 HP and 723 lb-ft of torque in a car that weighed just 2380 lbs. thanks to the liberal use of carbon fiber.

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Hennessey SRT600?

This might look like an ordinary Jeep Grand Cherokee, but with a uniquely located turbo (underneath the transmission) courtesy of John Hennessey, it’s now a Super Cherokee. Though Hennessey was just featured on DYH’s Tuner Tuesday for his 1000hp Viper, it’s hard to not give him a repeat showing with vehicles like this. The $27,900 SRT600 package turns an already powerful 420hp V8 into a ridiculously powerful 620hp monster, complete with a two year warranty. Seeing as the Jeep already pulls a .9 on the skidpad, has four wheel drive, and comes with all of the luxury any SUV owner could desire, Hennessey kept things simple and focused on the engine. Upgrades include:

  • Forged Pistons (9.5:1 compression ratio)
  • Forged Steel Connecting Rods
  • Ported & Polished Cylinder Heads
  • Balanced & Blueprinted Assembly
  • Single Turbocharger
  • Stainless Steel Turbo Headers
  • Single 44 mm Wastegate
  • Stainless Steel Dual 3 in. Exhaust System with Polished 4 in. Stainless Steel Exhaust Tips
  • Front Mounted Air-to-Air Intercooler
  • 3.5 in. Polished Inlet Tube with Blow-Off Valve
  • Upgraded Fuel Pump & Fuel System

So what does all that give you? How about:

  • 0 – 60 mph: 3.5 seconds
  • 0 – 100 mph: 8.9 seconds
  • 1/4 mile: 11.9 seconds @ 116 mph

Just to put that in perspective, your Hennessey powered grocery getter will now beat a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S in the quarter by more than a second. But the Cayenne is just another SUV, what about cars? Glad you asked. The SRT600 will also win in a quarter mile drag if you go against any of the BMW M cars, all of the Mercedes AMG cars except for the SL65, the Audi S6, the Corvette, the Porsche 911 S, and even the Lamborghini Gallardo. The only cars that manage to best the beast are the 911 Turbo and the Corvette Z06, though they only manage to do it by a half of a second (and their trunks are just about big enough for a pair of swim trunks).

Fast is good.

…Pagani is building a super super car?

Pagani Zonda R

Italian Supercar maker Pagani is waging war on the Ferrari FXX with a track tuned version of their Zonda model, called simply the Zonda R. Designed to give “the ultimate performance at the racetrack without any implications of rules, except for safety”, it only carries over 10 percent of the parts from their previous model, the Zonda F, with the rest being designed from scratch. Features include a 750 horsepower V12 motor borrowed from the CLK GTR racecar that Mercedes’ AMG division puts together, modified bodywork and aerodynamics, and a general increase in amazing. It’s like a rocket, only faster.

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Hennessey?

Hennessey Engine

Hennessey is the self-proclaimed “Home of the World’s Quickest, Fastest & Most Powerful Vipers”, and after seeing their latest creation, I have no reason to doubt that claim. The 2007 Venom 1000 Twin Turbo SRT is a force to be reckoned with, featuring 1000 hp and 1100 lb-ft of torque from the 8.4 liter (522 cubic inch) stroker motor.

Hennessey Front

Hennessey Rear

With 0-60 times of 2.9 seconds, 0-100 times of 5.8 seconds, and a top speed of 255 mph, the number of cars that will outperform this beast can be counted on a single finger. Power comes from twin Garrett ball bearing turbos and a host of other engine tweaks including a front mounted air-to-air intercooler. Aesthetic modifications include a VenomAero body kit comprised of a front airdam, rear diffuser and a spoiler.

Hennessey Wheel

Traction (or what’s left of it) is improved with a lowered suspension featuring adjustable coil over shocks, a Brembo upgraded brake system, a differential upgrade, and Hennessey Venom 7R forged aluminum wheels (19×10 in the front, 20×13 in the rear) sporting Michelin Pilot tires.

Hennessey Interior

Inside, you’re treated to Connelly leather seats, 5-point racing harnesses, a DVD navigation system, and custom floor mats. They even throw in a 2 year, 24,000-mile warranty (though it probably doesn’t cover the damage you’ll do when you park it around a tree). Thankfully, to aid in your survival, each purchase comes with a 1-day private track session with famed instructor Brian Smith (who, being a Viper test pilot, might just have the best job in the world). If looks to kill for and performance to die for don’t get your heart pumping, just consider the fact that you’re getting better performance than a Bugatti Veyron for 1/7 the price. At just $225,000, you better hurry your little millionaire ass off though, as they’re only going to let 24 lucky buyers in on the chance to solidify their place in the automotive history books.

…It’s Movie Monday: Redline?

Redline Poster

Porsche Carrera GT Wreck

They could take out all of the actors and just have a bunch of cars driving around and I still think I’d want to go see Redline. Described as The Fast and The Furious for exotics, this Daniel Sadek creation is a who’s who of the supercar world, including Ferrari, Saleen, Koenigsegg, Ford, Lamborghini, Mercedes, McLaren, and Porsche. Though I’m sure the acting by such greats as Eddie Griffin, Nathan Phillips and Nadia Bjorlin will be nothing short of Oscar worthy, it’s all about the car porn anyways. Plus, they even manage to wreck a perfectly good Porsche Carrera GT at some point in the plot line. Set for a February 23rd release date, this is going to be the car movie of 2007. Fear Nothing, Risk Everything.
