…Planes need more lights?

LED RC Plane

What does a remote controlled airplane that’s been covered in 30 meters of LED lights (1,800 individual LED blubs) and then flown at night look like?

A little something like this:

…The clouds glow at night under airplanes?

Glowing Night Video

On a recent flight from Amsterdam to San Francisco, Flickr user Ettubrute noticed that the night lights from the cities were flowing beneath the clouds and making them glow in a spectacular and ethereal way: “It was really seeing the impact of urban environments from a different perspective.”

To capture and share this experience, he set up an improvised stabilizer mound out of bags, pillows and blankets for the camera to sit on, and took about three hours of photographs that he condensed into about a minute of time lapse video.

…Michael Neff loves chalk?

Michael Neff - Chalk

Michael Neff’s Chalk series is a terrific idea in which he outlines various objects’ shadows in chalk, and then photographs them at night, giving each shadow an odd, sort of radiating glow.

So far, cities that he’s done this in include New York, San Francisco, Seattle, and a small town in Oregon, and the series is ongoing, so he has plans for more in the future.

…Light trails look good at night?

Light Trails

The light trail is a beautiful addition to any nighttime shot, so if you’d like to add this style to your skill set, then head on over to Digital Photography School and read up on their guide to shooting light trails.

The basic idea is a long exposure and a narrow aperture, but there’s a lot that you can do to add to the effect.
