…It’s Website Wednesday: Is this your luggage?

Is This Your Luggage

Is This Your Luggage is a unique site in which the site owner goes to airport luggage auctions, buys lost luggage, photographs it, and then posts the photos online; turning them into a sort of biographical autopsy.

His hope is to find the original owners of some of the luggage and reunite the two, though for now, it just serves to satisfy the world’s weird voyeuristic passions.

So, is it yours?

…You are not worthy of TGIMBOEJ?

Great Internet Migratory Box of Electronics Junk

Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories’ Great Internet Migratory Box of Electronics Junk is a fascinating project in which a progressive lending library of electronic components becomes an internet meme in physical form halfway between P2P zip-archive sharing and a flea market.

Recipients of the box must:

  1. Take out and add as much electronics junk as you like (but keep it small enough to fit in a USPS flat-rate Priority Mail box).
  2. Write up, photograph, document or otherwise publish in some way online at least one thing you took out (suggested flickr tag: TGIMBOEJ).
  3. There is a little book in the box. Add a checkmark by your name to show that the box has been to you. Also propose a future recipient by adding their name and e-mail address to the book.
  4. Within two weeks pass the box along to one of the people whose name is in the book. Before mailing it to them, send them this list and make sure that they want to participate.

The goal is not necessarily to get anything of value from the box, but instead, to appreciate the box’s journey, and find some way to contribute to the overall story that the box represents.

…Your car is dirty?

Lamborghini Gallardo

You’ve probably had your car cleaned before, and you may have even had it detailed once or twice, but I can promise you that you’ve never had it cleaned and detailed like Clark’s Ne Plus Ultra can clean and detail it.

Recently, Clark decided to photograph and document his entire process for the Detailing World message boards, and reading through it is like a how-to for the automotively obsessed.

With four days of washing, waxing, measuring, taping, prepping, polishing, and even painting, the car comes out looking better than it ever has, even when compared to a factory fresh example.

Makes your bucket of suds seem rather simple by comparison, doesn’t it?

…Jamie Livingston took a lot of photos?

Jamie Livingston

Jamie Livingston took a Polaroid photograph every day from March 31, 1979 through October 25, 1997, when he passed away.

The end result is a collection of photos that are an amazing documentation of an eccentric life, and cover an entire spectrum of subjects, emotions, and time.

Check out Photo of The Day for digital versions of each pic, or the Mental Floss article for some of the highlights.

…Michael Neff loves chalk?

Michael Neff - Chalk

Michael Neff’s Chalk series is a terrific idea in which he outlines various objects’ shadows in chalk, and then photographs them at night, giving each shadow an odd, sort of radiating glow.

So far, cities that he’s done this in include New York, San Francisco, Seattle, and a small town in Oregon, and the series is ongoing, so he has plans for more in the future.
