…Canon cameras are hackable?

CHDK, or Canon Hacker’s Development Kit, is a firmware enhancement that turns your Digic II and Digic III camera into a high dollar impersonator.

Because it’s a firmware enhancement and not a firmware modifier, CHDK is also non-permanent and non-destructive, so even those with a fear of killing their camera can give it a go without worrying about the long-term consequences.

To install, simply copy a few files onto a memory card and then start the camera like you usually do. The software will automatically activate, and then de-activate when the camera is turned back off again.

So what does CHDK do for you?

  • Enhanced Image Capture (RAW)
  • Additional Information On-Screen
  • Additional Photographic Settings
  • Support for Small Programs/Scripts

Plus, because it’s open source and still in development, CHDK is still being actively developed, and new features are still being added.

…It’s Music Monday: South By Southwest?

South By Southwest

South by Southwest (AKA SXSW) is an interactive, film, and music festival that takes place every year in Austin, Texas.

Because many of the bands that perform there each year are trying to make it big and break into the scene, they release an official torrent with most of the music from the festival for you to download and enjoy.

This years torrent contained 763 tracks, and played end to end, would be nearly 48 hours of continuous music.

If that sounds like a lot to go through to find what you like, that’s because it is, so Paul Ford decided to listen to them all and give you a kind of cheat sheet for finding the music that you like.

His chart ranks each of the songs on a one to five scale, and gives each a six-word review, making it easy to find the good stuff.

If you’re looking to be on the cutting edge of the music scene, then head on over to the download link and fire up your favorite torrent downloader, because it doesn’t get much rawer than this.

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Koenigsegg Edition?

Koenigsegg Edition

When a car already has 1018 horsepower and runs on E85 ethanol, it’s hard to top it, but Koenigsegg has done just that with the CCX and CCXR Edition.

The aim of the Edition is to “deliver superior performance – on the track, in a straight line and on country roads – and to do so in style and comfort.”

Both are fitted with the 4.8L twin-supercharged engine, and have been track-tuned with modified shock absorbers, stiffer springs, anti-roll bars, reset dampers, and a lowered chassis.

The carbon fiber bodies have also been enhanced for additional downforce with an optimized rear wing, front winglets, and a larger front splitter and nolder, all left in raw carbon fiber form so that you can appreciate their beauty. And because it’s raw carbon fiber, “each individual section of carbon fibre bodywork has been painstakingly matched and then joined together inside out like a tailored suit, to create a stunning pinstripe effect. The process is so time-consuming that it takes almost twice as much time to create the clear-coated visible carbon body compared to the normal painted carbon CCX body.”

The interior features special anodized aluminum trim and a redesigned Koenigsegg Chronocluster and center console to “conform the Edition’s exclusive status.”

Want one?

Get in line, because only 14 of the CCX Editions will be made, though that’s more than enough when compared to the six CCXR Editions that will ever see the light of day.

…Unsubscribe Me is a powerful message?

Unsubscribe Me

“Unsubscribe Me” is an Amnesty International campaign against human rights abuse in the ‘war on terror’.

Instead of PGing the message to appeal to a wider audience, AI instead chose to show the real deal, and put a performance artist through the real interrogation techniques permitted by the CIA handbook.

The first of three films is called Waiting For The Guards, and involves the artist spending six hours in a “stress position”. The pain and anguish that you hear is real, and the emotion is raw.

The end result is a video that may be disturbing to some viewers; but then again, I guess that’s the point:

How much terror are we willing to use to fight the war on terror?
