…Saleen’s S5S Raptor looks sinister?

Saleen S5S Raptor

Saleen sure does know how to build ‘em right (he was, after all, the man that managed to make the Saleen S7 a reality) so the prospect of a second supercar form the American manufacturer does get me a little giddy on the inside.

Specs include a supercharged 5.0L V8 producing 650 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque, the ability to run on cellulosic ethanol, 0-60 in 3.2 seconds, 6-speed manual with an optional paddle shifted sequential gearbox, aluminum chassis, and a top speed of over 200 mph.

So what does eternal fastitude like this cost you?

If it makes it to market, just $185,000.

(And yes, in case you were wondering, I did bring you a sneak peak of this car back in November, so never let it be said that DYH doesn’t bring the latest and greatest to the table.)

…Saleen has secrets?

Saleen’s Clay ModelAs the man behind the stunningly sexy S7, and the ferociously fast Ford GT, Steve Saleen knows how to make ‘em.

So when a mysterious clay model shows up in his shop, the automotive world takes notice.

Is it his next supercar?

Is it Ford’s next supercar?

Is it a design study that will never see the light of day?

No one knows for sure, but it sure is fun to dream…

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Saleen?

Saleen History

Steve Saleen started out like any other Mustang tuner, adding more horsepower, more handling, more good looks, and more sexy to an already potent platform. Since the mid ‘80s, he’s been testing, tuning and tweaking his cars to get every last bit of performance out of the blue oval.

Saleen S7

Then, in 2000, Saleen did something that few others in the car world have been able to master: he designed and built his own car. The jump from bolting parts onto an existing car to designing your own car from the ground up is huge, but the S7 quickly dominated both the track and the street, proving that Americans can play the supercar game just as well as the Europeans can.

Saleen Mustang

Saleen’s current line-up includes the S7 (with 1000 twin turboed horsepower), the S281 Mustang (including a 550 horsepower Extreme version), the S331 Sport Truck (including a 450 horsepower supercharged version), and the new Parnelli Jones limited edition collaboration Mustang. If it’s fast, and it’s American, chances are, it’s Saleen.

…Saleen makes Mustangs for bad boys?

Saleen Bad Boy Mustang

Though if you’re participating in the Great American Run, an American version of the Cannonball rally, you can probably afford to buy your own, Saleen is giving a tricked out bad boy black Mustang to the winner of the race. 25 of the cars will be produced, tweaked to put out 600 BHP and a top speed of 200 mph, and 24 are being sold to entrants, with the last one being saved for the winner. Saleen, if you’d like, I’ll take one off your hands and cover the race from the inside if you want; just give me the keys.

…It’s Movie Monday: Redline?

Redline Poster

Porsche Carrera GT Wreck

They could take out all of the actors and just have a bunch of cars driving around and I still think I’d want to go see Redline. Described as The Fast and The Furious for exotics, this Daniel Sadek creation is a who’s who of the supercar world, including Ferrari, Saleen, Koenigsegg, Ford, Lamborghini, Mercedes, McLaren, and Porsche. Though I’m sure the acting by such greats as Eddie Griffin, Nathan Phillips and Nadia Bjorlin will be nothing short of Oscar worthy, it’s all about the car porn anyways. Plus, they even manage to wreck a perfectly good Porsche Carrera GT at some point in the plot line. Set for a February 23rd release date, this is going to be the car movie of 2007. Fear Nothing, Risk Everything.
