…It’s Things Thursday: Monster by Mail?

Monster By Mail

For just $25, cartoonist Len Peralta will draw you an original monster based on a design of your choosing and then mail you the final piece of art for you to display on the wall. Add $10 more, and he’ll even include a YouTube video of the entire process so that you can watch the creature come to life.

Summer of Super-villains

This summer Len is specifically focusing on super-villains with an event called the Summer of Super-villains, so if you give him the name of a potential super-villain, he’ll create a drawing that brings that name to life.

…We’re all gonna die?

We're All Gonna Die

Simon Hoegsberg’s work, We’re All Gonna Die – 100 meters of existence is a (you guess it) 100 meter long picture composed of 178 different portraits all captured over the course of 20 days from the same spot on a railroad bridge on Warschauer Strasse in Berlin in the summer of 2007.

The title of the photograph: “We’re All Gonna Die – 100 meters of existence” is not meant to spread fear as some people may believe – on the contrary, it’s meant to point out that life is beautiful, and unless we open up to each other instead of keeping our longings, hopes and experiences to ourselves we’ll fall into the grave with a lot of valuable information and love that we never got around to sharing with the people we’re in touch with. I believe that it is meaningful to let the thought that we’re going to die into our heads once in a while because it brings into perspective what we’re actually doing with the life we’ve been given.

Darren Rowse from Digital Photography School also had a chance to speak with Simon about the work, so be sure to read the full interview there for more info.

…It’s TGI Friday: Lemonade?

LemonadeYou know what they say about life and lemons…

This weekend, as the temperatures continue to rise, and you’re suddenly well aware of the fact that it is summer outside after all, grab a glass, add some lemons, pour on some sugar, finish it off with a splash of water, and make your own lemonade.

You don’t need to stick to the classics though, as Real Simple has put together some fantastic recipes for remade lemonades.

Featuring the Ginger Zinger, Tropical and Farmers’ Lemonades, and the Lemon-Mint Cooler, it’s the perfect compliment to that day of well-deserved relaxation that you’ve been planning for weeks now.

…Iron Man was awesome?

Iron Man

Ok, so maybe not, but after watching Iron Man, you’ll want to run down the street yelling that too.

Thanks to TechCrunch’s invitation, I was able to get a sneak peak at Iron Man Wednesday, and I can whole heartedly agree with the 96% that this film is currently rocking on Rotten Tomatoes.

Rotten Tomatoes Iron Man

It’s the summer blockbuster that you’ve been waiting for, and probably beyond what you’re expecting from it.

Sure, it’s got a great theme song, and the commercials look great, but that’s just the Hollywood Hype Machine running on overdrive, right?

Iron Man is a solid film with a plausible (futuristic) story line, fantastic acting, and top notch tech ogling.

First: Robert Downey Jr. is a bad ass. His role as a billionaire weapons manufacturer that likes fast talk, hard liquor, expensive women and cheap thrills is perfect, and he says each line with a bravado that will surely be emulated by everyone for the next few weeks.

Second: The action doesn’t stop. Sure, it’s a CGI film with plenty of additional special effects; but keep in mind, this is a comic book based movie after all. As is expected with a summer blockbuster, the explosions are over the top, the battles drag out, and the eye candy is ever present, but it’s always done in a way that lends itself to the story line, and never seems out of place.

Third: This is a tech head’s dream flick. From 3D holographic displays and futuristic UI to a sassy computer and robotic assistants, it’s a look into the future at what everyone hopes the world will become.

If you have a chance, then go see this movie, because you won’t be disappointed.

Grade: A
Theater Worthy: Yes

…The Pickle Sickle is exactly what it sounds like?

Pickle Sickle

Nothing says Summer like a nice frozen bar of…pickle juice?

The Pickle Sickle is a frozen pop (similar to an Otter Pop) that’s made from 100% pickle parts, and it’s apparently healthy in addition to being tasty (or so they say).

Though it’s not exactly the thing you’d expect in the frozen deserts isle, it could be just what you’ve been looking for to cool you down after a hot day of play.

Or it could be gross.
