Shwood Turns Good Wood Into Sunglasses

Shwood creates beautiful wooden sunglasses that take retro styles and give them a natural twist.

Shwood Blanks

In their own words:

A simple experiment with nature. Born from the limb of a Madrone tree, a rusty pair of cabinet hinges, and lenses from the corner store, Shwood has been a curious endeavor from the beginning. An endeavor to create a product that encompasses the individuality and uniqueness that can only be found in natural surroundings. A desire to experiment with design, materials, and aesthetics in the search for something that works. Free from passing trends, the brand’s focus remains that of its roots, innovation and creation. Long live creativity.

Shwood’s in-house manufacturing process merges precision technology with classic skilled craftsmanship to create a timeless art form. Every step from veneering and precision lens cutting, to shaping and finishing is conducted in our own Portland-based workshop to promise an entirely handcrafted eyewear piece. Wood manipulation is kept to a minimum in order to showcase the medium’s natural and unique splendor. All models are accompanied by 100% UVA/UVB protection Carl Zeiss lenses imported from Italy. Polarized lenses are also available.

With collections that range from $125 on up to $195 for limited edition collaborations made with rare and unique woods (including recycled skateboard decks!) there’s a style and a price for everyone, so check out Shwood to see what fits.

…You can catch sunglasses on your face?

Back in May of ’07, I posted a video of a bunch of guys catching sunglasses on their face:

In case you were wondering how it was done (I know I was), Captain Disillusion has posted an explanation video that breaks down each of the seven scenes:

As with all magic, it seems easy once you know how the secret. However, it’s the magician’s innovation that keeps you guessing, and with videos like this:

I’m sure the glasses guys will have us guessing for a long time to come.

…Oakley’s O Lab is impressive?

Oakley O Lab

NOTCOT recently got a chance to tour Oakley’s rolling O Lab; a research lab that travels the country inside of a trailer, showing off what their shades can do.

The machines that they use are impressive, and the results speak for themselves, so it’s definitely worth a look.

Might be time to pick up a new pair…

…Travis Pastrana can fly?

Travis Pastrana Parachute

Because jumping motorcycles and rally racing isn’t enough, Travis Pastrana tries to find new ways to die in his latest video, called Thrillbillies.

In the photo above, you can see him 12,500 feet above the ground without a parachute. Instead, Travis jumped with sunglasses, board shorts, and a can of Red Bull.

What more could you need, right?

Oh yeah…A parachute.

During the dive, Travis’ three jumping partners attached their parachute to the harness that he was wearing underneath his shorts, and parachuted everyone safely to the ground.
