…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Jet Truck?

Jet Truck

What’s the fastest way to give your 2005 Ford F-150 STX 2,700 extra horses?

Easy: Mount a $10,000 Motorlet M-701 turbojet engine in the bed and hold on!

The engine, which makes 2,700 HP and 1962 pounds of thrust at 15,500 rpm, weighs just 728 pounds and runs on kerosene. (Though to be fair, it would have to be going 516 mph to make all that power.)

Unaided, the Ford’s 231 HP V8 will get to 60 mph n 14.5 seconds, and the quarter passes by at just 73 mph. (Topping out at 85 mph.)

With the jet providing extra power in ‘hybrid’ mode however, 60 mph happens 6 seconds sooner, and the quarter mile speed jumps a full 30 mph. Plus, when you’re up to speed, you can actually GAIN extra speed by shifting into neutral and letting the jet do all the work.

It might not be the greenest vehicle around, but it sure is the most fun you can have in a hybrid!

…9ff tuns the GT2 into a mean machine and calls it the BT-2?

9ff BT2

Porsche’s GT2 is already a pretty stellar supercar, but the folks at 9ff aren’t satisfied with just stellar, so they wanted to make their version spectacular.

9ff BT2 Engine

The result of their work is a car called the BT-2, which takes a car that’s nicknamed ‘The Widowmaker’ and turns everything up to 11. Power jumps from 520 to 850 horsepower, torque rises to 678 pound-feet, and zero to sixty times drop from a scary 3.7 seconds to an unbelievable 3 seconds flat. Top speed is also increased to 240 mph, and you’ll pass by 200 in just 19 seconds on your way to the top.

Just don’t forget to blink…

…The Novitech TuLesto is a self-made supercar?

Novitech TuLesto

Novitec is known for making bad beasts out of Italian stallions, but now they’ve set their sights a little higher, and intend on releasing a semi-custom car (or eleven) of their very own to celebrate their 20th anniversary.

Called the TuLesto, it’s based loosely on the Ferrari F430, though just about everything on the car has been poked and prodded into a new, and some would argue sexier shape.

Two superchargers give the carbon fiber creation a healthy 777 horsepower out of the 4.4-liter V8, and 60 happens 3.4 seconds after pressing the go pedal on the way to a top speed of more than 217 mph.

Happy birthday indeed!

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: IAD Mosler MT900 GTR XX Land Shark?

IAD Mosler MT900 GTR XX Land Shark

If you believe the claims that Intense Automotive Design is making, then what you see here is the fastest production car… ever.

Based on a Mosler MT900 GTR XX, the twin-turbo monster, nicknamed the Land Shark, claims to be making 2,500hp at a red line of 10,000 rpm on its way to a top speed of 305 mph! (And apparently, with 118 octane racing fuel and IAD aerodynamic modifications, you can increase that speed to a freakishly fast 375+ mph. Apparently.)

To put that in perspective, by the time a quick car makes it to 60 mph (around 6.7 seconds) the IAD Mosler will already be going 150 mph, and 2.3 seconds later, it’ll have done a quarter mile at 178 mph in just 9.0 seconds. Plus, if you just want to see how fast you can get to 150, the IAD Mosler will go from a standing start to 150 mph and back to zero again in just 8.7 seconds.

IAD Mosler MT900 GTR XX Land Shark Detail

To get there, modifications include a four fuel system, a custom all wheel drive system made of titanium and carbon fiber, and all-titanium suspension system, aerodynamic modifications including a front splitter and a fully adjustable rear wing, and carbon fiber wheels with magnesium centers that are attached to the car with titanium lug nuts.

Since the car will remain a mystery until actual numbers get checked and verified, we’ll just have to take IAD’s word for it, but they do plan to show off what it’s capable off during the 2009 Bonneville Speed Week, and then send it over to the Nurburgring for a few hot laps in the hands of Michael Schumacher, so I just hope it lives up to expectations.

…The Bentley Continental Supersports is green?

Bentley Continental Supersports

The Bentley Continental Supersports might not look very green, but as the company’s first FlexFuel vehicle, it is. (Kinda.)

Bentley Continental Supersports Detail

The ‘Extreme Bentley’ is also the fastest and most powerful car to wear a flying B on the hood, with a 621 hp E85-compatible W12 propelling the car to 60 in just 3.7 seconds, and giving it a top speed of 204 mph.

In addition, the car receives carbon ceramic brakes, 24 lbs of weight reduction, a dark-smoked steel finish on all ‘brightware’ (front grilles, lamp bezels, window surrounds and wheels) and plenty of carbon fiber to go around, both inside and out.

It’s definitely not your father’s Bentley, but in this case, that’s definitely not a bad thing.
