…It’s Tuner Tuesday: FAS Matiz?

FAS Matiz

With enough motivation (and time, money and beer), you can turn just about any car into the car of your dreams.

For Fourdin Auto Sport out of Belgium, that meant taking the 550hp, 7.0L LS7 V8 out of a Corvette Z06 and shoving it between the frame rails of a Chevy Matiz.

13 months and 1,500 man hours later, they ended up with the car you see before you, a pure-bred race car that will reach 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds on its way to a top speed of 162 mph. (For comparison, the stock Matiz takes 22 seconds to get to 60, and triple digit top speeds are out of the question without a long downhill road and a bit of a tail wind.)

Besides the engine, obvious modifications include a full roll cage, a SUPER wide-body kit, new suspension, wheels and tires, and a wing out back to keep the tail end planted on the track.

It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but when you dare to dream, the results of that dream can often come in the strangest of packages.

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: ASMA Perfectus?

ASMA Perfectus SLR

When ASMA Design got their hands on the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722, they created an all-carbon-fiber monster called the Perfectus.

Featuring 700hp, a top speed of 216 mph, highly stylized fender flares that make the car more than 2-meters wide, and one-off ASMA rims, it’s a little extreme for most, but when you’re dealing with the world of tuner supercars, the limits are often pushed beyond belief.

…Vespa makes the GTS 300 scooter for men?

Vespa GTS 300

Apparently Vespa has finally figured out that with a little bit of black paint, some subtle accents, and their most powerful engine to date, they can probably sell the thing to guys just as well as they can sell it to girls.

The Vespa GTS 300 Super features a 22hp, 278cc, four-stroke, single cylinder, liquid-cooled, electronic injected engine that propels the man-mobile to a top speed of around 80 mph (Though I hope to god no one tries to top speed one of these things!) while getting a rather thrifty 70 mpg.

Additional features include 12-inch alloy rims, double-disc brakes, red springs, a new grill, and plenty of cargo room to hold your man pur… man bag.

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Cadillac One?

Cadillac One

When Obama goes for his inaugural ride in the Cadillac One, he’ll be the most protected president to date thanks to a slew of new safety features.

The president’s limo has always been designed to keep him safe in all but the most dire of circumstances, and this one is no different, as its designed to protect against armor-piercing bullets, projectiles, biochemical attacks, and even bombs that manage to find their way underneath the vehicle.

How much armor will be keeping the Cadillac One safe?

Try five inch thick steel under the car; Kevlar reinforced, shred and puncture-resistant tires with steel backup rims for tire-less high speed escapes; A foam filled gas tank that prevents an explosion, even if it suffers a direct hit; Eight inch thick doors that weigh more than the cabin door on a 757; and bullet proof glass in every window that will stop nearly any bullet that finds its way towards the car.

In addition, the vehicle features night vision cameras, a firefighting system, oxygen generators, shotguns, tear gas cannons, a collection of GPS and communications devices, and even a few pints of the presidents blood should he need an emergency transfusion en route to a hospital.

Don’t expect to see the president making guest appearances at any local drag strips however, since the car takes a full 15 seconds to get to 60 mph, and has reached its top speed once it gets there. Plus, he’d have a tough time getting home since the car gets just 8 mpg.

There are probably plenty of other capabilities that we’ll never know about, but it’s good to know that Obama will be riding around in what amounts to a bomb shelter on wheels when he hits the streets.

…It’s Tuner Tuesday: Polly Motorsports Trans Am?

Polly Motorsports Trans Am Engine

Sure, it looks like KITT, and is probably shorter in person, but this 1987 Pontiac Trans Am is no movie star.

No, it’s more akin to the stuntman that shows up, gets the job done, and then goes home to the family without expecting any kind of star treatment.

That’s because this rather stock looking car (when the hood’s down at least) from Polly Motorsports of Norway is officially Europe’s fastest street-legal car, with a verified top speed of 252 mph on the Papenburg test track in Germany. Plus, according to the builders, it was just getting warmed up when they set that record, and they expect to see speeds in excess of 270 mph once they have a chance to stretch its legs back in the US.

Power comes from an 8.9L V8 that has been supercharged to produce 1407 horsepower, and the result (in addition to the top speed) is a 0-62 mph time of just 2.23 seconds.

A custom-made coilover suspension keeps things planted, a 9” Ford axle tries not to explode when the go pedal is pressed, and 14” brakes slow everything down once the fun is over. Other than the hood scoop though, the exterior looks rather civilized, and it’s only when you pop the hood of the best do you realize that it’s no ordinary Trans Am.

No need to worry if you see this car in your rear view mirror though, because it probably won’t be there for long.
