…DYH is back?

Server

Daily DidntYouHear.com readers probably noticed that the site was down for a few days recently, and that things are still a little funky around here.

Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) the problems were due to issues beyond my control, since DYH’s host ran into some serious hiccups that lasted for a few days while their servers took a nap and took DYH down with them.

Thankfully, things are slowly but surely returning to normal as the backups are filtering in and the dust is starting to settle. It’s going to take a few days to iron out all the kinks, but for now, DYH should return to its regular posting schedule, and you’ll have your daily serving of the latest and greatest to help get you through the day in no time.

Thanks for sticking it out with me, and if you notice anything in a few days that still just doesn’t look right, please feel free to get in touch and let me know, as there’s only so much that I can check by myself.

…The Internet is having a balloon race?

Orange is hosting the World’s first Internet Balloon Race, and DidntYouHear is taking part.

I’ve entered P-Nut the raccoon into the race (you should be able to see him in the bottom left of the screen), and DidntYouHear.com is a destination that racers can stop at to earn “miles” during the race. Then, the person with the most miles at the end of the wins a trip to Ibiza.

If you’d like to participate in the race, just click on P-Nut and it should take you to the Orange site where you can sign up and get your own balloon to race.

Hurry though, because the race ends in just four days.

…DYH is in Chicago?

Chicago

I’m going on a work related trip to Chicago today, so DYH is going to be light on the updates, but in place of my normal posts, I’ve added tons of cool/great/awesome/semi-lame links from my “write about this one day” pile to the DidntYouHear.com Facebook Page.

If you haven’t already, be sure to become a fan of the page, since I’m going to try to use it more often as a place to put all of the interesting links that I find that I just don’t have time to write a full post about.

See you there!

…The Facebook Page is growing?

Facebook

Last week I announced the launch of the DidntYouHear.com Facebook Page, and since then, 25 people have already signed up to be fans, which is fantastic, so a big thanks to everyone who joined!

I also announced that I would be picking out one fan at random and giving them a $10 Amazon Gift Card, so thanks to the magic of Excel’s =rand() function, Alice Chang has been selected. Congratulations!

If you haven’t already done so, then check out the Facebook Page and click “Become a Fan”. I’ll be doing exclusive content and contests there just for the Facebook Fans, as well as adding games and more to interact with on the page, so it should be fun.

See you there!

…DYH is changing hosts?

Ahm bizzy sleepn.

Faithful DYH readers,

Good News: DidntYouHear.com is now on a new, and hopefully 20 times better host! (Full explanation of the reasons for the switch, along with impressions of the new host coming soon.)

Bad News: It took me over 6 hours to make the change, and now I need some sleep!

Thus, DYH is going to be a little lite on the updates today, but I’ll have some new stuff up ASAP, and the site should be fully functioning and normal again in about 24 hours. (For now, everything has to cycle through http://s18719.gridserver.com/)

Thanks for your understanding,

Cory

…It’s Movie Monday: Ryan?

Ryan

Ryan was “a Canadian animator. A gentleman panhandler. One of the pioneers of Canadian animation. Oscar nominee. Poor beggar. An artist unable to create. God observing the world. Fallen angel. Arrogant. Shy. Broken. Not destroyed.” 30 years ago, Ryan produced some of the most influential animated films of his time. Years later, plagued by alcoholism and drug abuse, he was destitute on the streets of Toronto.

In this rather captivating and haunting short, called simply “Ryan”, Chris Landreth animates a tribute to Ryan Larkin.

In Ryan we hear the voice of Ryan Larkin and people who have known him, but these voices speak through strange, twisted, broken and disembodied 3D generated characters… people whose appearances are bizarre, humorous or disturbing. Although incredibly realistic and detailed, Ryan was created and animated without the use of live action footage, rotoscoping or motion capture…but instead from an original, personal, hand animated three-dimensional world which Chris calls ‘psychological realism’.

…Cars and People is fascinating?

Time-lapse photography can make anything exponentially more exciting, so it should come as no surprise that the seemingly boring subject of a parking lot takes on a life of its own when you can watch 24 hours flash by in just over a minute.

Called Cars and People, it was shot using a Canon Digital Rebel XT SLR camera with 15-second intervals between shots at the parking lot on Bay and Edward in Toronto.

…MOO is having an egg hunt?

MOO Egg Hunt

Get a jump on the Easter season with MOO’s Egg Hunt.

MOO has hidden eggs online, in MOO products, and in the great outdoors, and finding one could win you one of over 3,500 prizes.

Each working day they’ll hide new clues in the MOO Blog, and there are also clues hidden in orders for current MOO customers.

The first person to find each egg wins a prize, and another nine random finders will also win prizes, for a total of 10 winners per egg.

They’ve also partnered with Flickr, so if you’d like to get started with finding eggs in the great outdoors, and live in either London, Montreal, Bordeaux, Oaxaca, Tokyo, Paris, Niagra Falls, Toronto, New York, Brighton, Glasgow, BC, Oslo, Barcelona, Brussels, Silicon Valley, Wellington, Oxford, Austin, Konstanz, or San Francisco, then check the map for an egg near you.
