…Mint knows your stats?

Mint

Shawn Blanc’s review of NetNewsWire was spot on, so it should come as no surprise that his Mint review is equally accurate.

As a Mint user myself, I definitely agree with his praising of Mint for its simplistic, yet data rich design. As a site owner, it gives you the information that you want (and need) to know, in a way that’s easy to view and understand, and it doesn’t overload you with data that you’ll never be able to use.

In addition, Shawn coins a term for something that I’ve noticed but never thought to give a term to: The Mint Referrer High-Five. The MRHF is when you see SomeoneElsesSite.com/mint/ in your referrer list, which means that they saw your site in their Mint referrer list, and wanted to see what your site was all about. It’s like a community of Mint users, and if you’ve got a site, it’s time to join.

Shawn, here’s your high-five:

…Apple has secrets?

Leopard Icon

The icons that Apple created for its Leopard OS can be blown up to a size that is beyond what anyone can use (unless, of course, you’re using the Coverflow browser), but if you do decide to check them out in full sized glory, you’ll be greeted with a few clever surprises that the designers left in for the inquisitive user.

…It’s Movie Monday: School For Scoundrels?

School of Scoundrels

Despite its Rotten score on the Rotten Tomatoes’ Critics Tomatometer:

Rotten Tomatoes’ Critics Tomatometer

I decided to rent School of Scoundrels this weekend, hoping that it was one of those movies that critics just don’t understand. Possibly because of my lowered expectations, I was pleasantly surprised by this charmingly sweet comedy that pit the wits of Billy Bob Thornton (of Angelina Jolie fame) against that of Jon Heder (of Napoleon Dynamite fame).

There were enough plot twists and turns to keep things edgy and unpredictable, and enough laugh out loud moments to keep things light hearted and moving, that by the end, I found I had actually enjoyed myself. Plus, the Rotten Tomatoes’ Users Tomatometer scored a somewhat solid 53%, so I know there are a few out there who agree with me. If you’re looking for a good date night renter, or just want something a little different for your comedy movie night, School of Scoundrels should definitely be on your list.

Grade: B
Rent Worthy: Yes

…It’s Website Wednesday: Zooppa?

Zooppa

Zooppa is an interesting new online advertising firm that puts content creation in the hands of the users. Each month, a new brand is given, and then anyone can create an advertisement for that brand. After all of the videos have been collected, users vote on the best one, and the winners are given cold, hard Zoop dollars (which are apparently equivalent to cold, hard cash, only you have to convert them). Though it’s still in super beta mode right now (v 0.3), the idea is interesting, and should definitely be something to keep an eye out for. Zoop away.
